Area Meeting at Ealing on Sunday 15th May 2011

There was a full agenda this month, with much information about membership and three reports from
representatives. However, unusually, I do not propose to report them in detail. David Humber has forwarded the
Minutes by email, and I would encourage you to read them in full.

Instead, I would like to concentrate on just one issue: the continuing controversy over ownership of the bricks
and mortar of our Meeting Houses, and the role of Six Weeks Meeting. 6WM requested Aea Meetings to decide
by June whether they wanted to take responsibility for the deeds of the Meeting Houses in their Areas, making
themselves liable for expenses as well as empowering themselves to make decisions about sale or
development. Alternatively, 6WM offered to take over the responsibility for these decisions, freeing Areas from
any further concern, but also taking the future of the buildings out of the hands of the Areas altogether.

Strong feelings were aroused, and the discussion was lengthy. One thing that was generally agreed was the
6WM were being unrealistic in expecting a decision so quickly. We have told them that we will take this matter to
Local Meetings for their consideration and then discuss it in detail at the Area Meeting in July, when we will
decide which of the two draft Minutes (see Area Meeting Minutes as above) we will adopt.

All Friends are urged to attend the July Area Meeting. As you know this takes place on 16th July at our Meeting
House; business will begin at 2:30 pm, but as usual we will precede it with lunch and we will invite you
contributions to the catering.

We hope that you will be able to join us for this vital meeting,

Leo.
